Terms and conditions

Draft. This document is a working draft and will be reviewed by a solicitor before LocateMyMechanic launches. Items in [square brackets] will be filled in once the company is registered.

1. Who we are

LocateMyMechanic (“we”, “us”) is operated by [COMPANY NAME LTD], a company registered in England and Wales (company number [COMPANY NUMBER]), registered office [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. You can contact us using the contact form.

2. What LocateMyMechanic does

LocateMyMechanic is an online directory and booking-request service. We help drivers find and compare independent garages and send them booking requests. We are not a garage and we don't carry out any work on vehicles. Each garage is an independent business responsible for its own prices, services, workmanship and customer service.

3. Terms for drivers

3.1 Free to use

Using LocateMyMechanic is free for drivers. You never pay us, and you never pay through the website or app. You pay the garage directly for any work.

3.2 Booking requests

A booking request is not a confirmed appointment. The garage will contact you to agree the date, time, work and price. Your contract for the work is with the garage, not with us.

3.3 Prices

Prices shown are set by each garage, include VAT and are a guide. The final price is agreed between you and the garage before any work is done.

3.4 Reviews

You can review a garage only after a booking the garage has marked as attended. Reviews must:

  • be your own honest experience;
  • not be offensive, defamatory or include other people's personal information;
  • not be written in exchange for any payment, discount or other incentive.

We may remove reviews that break these rules. Garages can reply to and report reviews, but cannot delete them.

3.5 Your account

Keep your login details safe and give accurate contact details, so garages can reach you about your requests.

4. Terms for garages (summary)

Garages agree to separate membership terms when they register. In summary:

  • Membership is £29.00 a month plus £10.00 for each attended job, excluding VAT.
  • The job fee applies only when a customer attends — never for enquiries, requests, cancellations or no-shows — and only to a customer's first attended visit; further attended visits by the same customer within 12 months are free. There is at most one fee per booking.
  • Garages mark each booking attended or no-show within 7 days of the appointment. Fees are shown on an itemised monthly invoice and can be disputed within 14 days.
  • The first term is 6 months, billed monthly. If a garage has fewer than 3 attended bookings in its first 60 days, it may leave with nothing further to pay.
  • After the first term, membership continues month to month and can be cancelled online at any time with 30 days' notice. We remind garages 30 and 7 days before the first term ends, and never renew into another fixed term.
  • We give at least 60 days' notice of price changes, and garages may leave without penalty.
  • Garages must give accurate information about their services and prices, and must not write, buy or incentivise reviews.

5. Using the site

Don't misuse LocateMyMechanic — for example by sending fake booking requests, trying to access other people's data, or copying garage listings in bulk.

6. Our responsibility to you

We work to keep listings accurate but rely on information from garages. We are not responsible for work carried out by garages; your rights about that work are against the garage. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer or any liability that can't legally be limited.

7. Demo listings

While we launch, some example (“Demo”) garages are shown to demonstrate the service. They are clearly labelled, are not real businesses and cannot be booked.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll show the date of the latest version at the top of this page and tell account holders about significant changes.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
